A 1940’s Themed Party – Bring Back Memories of World War Two
The 1940’s was a decade dominated by war. The pain of parting, anxiety and fear for the future and the very real fear of death – the world lived from day to day with these feelings. Hollywood musical films, shown in cinemas everywhere provided a welcome escape into a dream world of glamour, chic and glitz.
The Big Band sound – epitomised by Glenn Miller – and the romantic Swing Jazz songs from these films became the signature sound of the period.
In the 1940’s, Glenn Miller-style Swing was King. Service men and their gals madly jived the night away then smooched to dreamy romantic ballads - troubles forgotten for a few precious minutes.

No other style of music so completely captures the spirit of that wartime period. What better way to evoke the feeling of the period than with a performance by The 1940’s Blitz Big Band? With both male and female vocalists, the band can give you the best of both Vera Lynn and Frank Sinatra.
The guys also play specially arranged, scaled down versions of Glenn Miller classics and a five piece band gives you a very affordable version of the Big Band sound. The band comes dressed in World War 2 American air force style uniforms. The guys and gals look as authentic as they sound.
“It Don’t Mean a Thing if it Ain’t Got that Swing.” The high energy and the edginess of Swing caught the wartime mood perfectly. No 1940’s themed party is complete without it.

Popularised on the radio and in the cinema, Swing became synonymous with Broadway spectacle and Hollywood dreamland. The craftsmanship of the songs written for these productions has never been bettered. The silver screen projection of high-end sophistication and lavish style was a magical antidote to exhausted wartime blues.
The musical choice is pretty straightforward and inevitable – it simply has to be Swing. A Vintage Harmony Trio is the perfect way to capture this style and feel at a small event.

Beautifully dressed in romantic 1940’s style with “film star” hair and make-up, a Vintage Harmony Trio brings the world of The Boswell Sisters and The Andrews Sisters back to life. With harmony singing, choreographed dance routines and vintage microphones, the girls give you versions of all the well-known wartime classic songs.
For small events the girls can perform with backing tracks and for larger events, they can bring a jazz trio to accompany the singing. The girls have a range of different costumes, ranging from vintage American army uniforms to ball gowns and will dress to suit the event.
Romance is the very essence of Swing – ‘Isn’t It Romantic?’ was a huge Broadway hit of the time. Choreographed routines (Fred Astaire, Busby Berkeley) were essential ingredients in the success of the Hollywood Musical Movies that exported the smash-hit Broadway Shows from New York to an international audience of cinema-goers. Add the Big Band sound of Glenn Miller and you have the music of the 1940’s.
